Safeguard's history

Safeguard Coaches is an independent company, which has remained in the same family since its inception in 1924.

Safeguard has provided passenger transport services to the people of Guildford and the surrounding areas from the days of the open charabanc to the present fleet of seven buses and thirty very modern luxury coaches.

Five generations of the Newman family have been involved - from the patriarch mother Mrs Annie Newman and her four sons - Arthur, John, Fred and Bert – through to third generation directors Bernard and Kenneth, fourth generation Graham and fifth generation Mark. Their contribution to the Company – whether driving, maintenance, management or all three – has added to the rich Safeguard legacy and helped the modern forward looking Company of today provide a depth of experience rarely equalled.

Many local companies have been purchased over the years the largest of which was Farnham Coaches, acquired in 1988.

Part of Safeguard’s long history has been physically retained in the shape of a 1950’s heritage bus with registration 200APB. This was used on local bus routes in Guildford from 1956 to 1962 and is now beautifully restored and available to make your wedding, corporate event or other special occasion stand out in people’s memories.
